Auditor's Office publishes an Audit Summary Report of 2011 Alternative Learning Experience Audits

Article Content

In 2011 the State Auditor’s Office performed a series of 67 compliance audits of school districts with Alternative Learning Environment (ALE) programs.  The Office is pleased to issue this summary report:

·        We reported issues in 52 of the 67 audits conducted.  Which lead to $26,853,125 in questioned costs.

·        The audits found documentation issues such as: missing or incomplete student learning plans and missing monthly progress reviews.

While ALE makes up about 3.5 percent of basic enrollment reported for funding, the regulations are complex with extensive documentation requirements.  We offer this summary as a way to better understand the regulations and challenges facing the state’s ALE programs.
