What is a State government Performance Review?
On July 1, we began work on a State Government Performance Review that will identify opportunities to streamline government, improve customer service and save taxpayers’ money. The review will:
-
Recommend ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of state government’s
shared services of information technology and property management.
-
Offer innovative and practical proposals for
government reform to improve the performance of state programs and hold down costs.
-
Identify risks that could prevent state government from achieving its most important goals.
This
performance audit planning assessment also will help set priorities for state-level performance audits.
We will report the results of the review to citizens, the Governor and the Legislature in time for consideration during the 2010 legislative session.
The performance review will differ in important ways from our performance audits.
-
The review will take a broad perspective, looking at functions and services that cross agency lines, rather than focusing on a single agency or program as does a performance audit.
-
The review will include ideas for government reform from inside and outside of state government, rather than focusing exclusively on government programs and actions.
