Open Government Activities
"The people, in delegating authority, do not give their public servants the right to decide what is good for the people to know and what is not good for them to know." - Washington Open Public Meetings Act
State Auditor Brian Sonntag and the Office have undertaken several initiati
ves to promote open government at the state and local levels.
In Fall 2009, State Auditor Sonntag and Attorney General Rob McKenna joined forces to create an Open Government Task Force. Its goal was to study and make recommendations on the creation of an administrative board to rule on complaints of violations of the Public Records Act and the Open Public Meetings Act.
The task force members met on October 5, 2009 and November 2, 2009. They recommended ways to improve open government. Video archives of the October and November meetings are available on TVW.
